2. Analysis

Singapore Government has been proactive in promoting sustainable practices as in 2005; it launched a BCA Green Scheme to drive Singapore's construction industry to become more environmentally friendly. This initiative helped in creating awareness among builders, designers, and developers as they worked on the project from the conception stage until the development. Again, there have been initiatives by a number of regulatory bodies like the Monetary Authority of Singapore that emphasize sustainability focus even in reporting matters. 

At CDL, CSR was promoted through a broad stakeholder engagement after accounting for the interests of investors, customers, employees, contractors, suppliers, and the community. Also, it became a member of the Singapore Compact for CSR as well to promote sustainability among the business community.

As part of its CSR strategy, it was the first one to adopt the Green Mark scheme by having its management support the implementation of green design and features in its projects through innovative techniques. It even has a KPI for an innovation practice that has not been adopted by any other company. Also, it produced its own sustainability report to keep a better track of its sustainability initiatives.

Apart from this, CDL would constantly monitor its contractors on sustainability metrics as these contractors were required to submit their EHS performance of worksites on a monthly basis. Also, the organization's project managers would also monitor the projects according to a set benchmark in areas of employee safety, process efficiency, etc.
