Case Study Questions Answers

1. What are the critical features of the Army Crew Team task? What does the task require the team members to do?

The case study on the crew army team has reflected how authentic leadership should be governed. The leadership is done by coach Stas Preczewski who will be called Coach P. he is the coach of the military academy of the United States. He was seen as overconfident on his team as he believed that his team had a champion level and that there is not any team better than his but later, he had to face the toughest challenge being a couch. The season was almost coming to an end and it was noticed that the junior varsity team had an extreme edge over the varsity team as they had been winning all the practice matches against them proving themselves better than varsity team members. Coach P was completely unable to figure out the reason behind this poor response from the varsity team and was in extreme trauma as they were left with only one week for the National Championship. He was left with very few options for his team to grab a victory.

One option was to exchange the group members of the junior varsity team with the varsity team, secondly, they could place some individual members from the junior varsity team in the varsity team whose performance was extraordinary, and lastly, the only option coach P was left with was more and more practice of the varsity team in that last one week. Addressing the critical features of the Army Crew team task it was noticed that there were three main problems and issues that led to the downfall of the performance of the Army Crew Team. the main reason was the lack of leadership, then came lack of trust which was again an essential element for the loss of the varsity team over the junior varsity team, and lastly, there was hardly any positive communication among the members of the varsity team. These all factors collectively became the root cause of all the misunderstandings that took place and became the reason for the loss of the varsity team.

2. (a) Describe the key elements of the process that was used to set up the Varsity and the JV crew teams?

Two teams were selected based on their performance the varsity team and the junior varsity team. The varsity team had gone through a series of shortlisting based on speed, coordination, and strength, and in the end, the top eight were selected to be the finalist of the varsity team. The bottoms rowers were placed on the junior varsity team. Coach P was completely unable to figure out the reason behind this poor response from the varsity team and was in extreme trauma as they were left with only one week for the National Championship.

The season was almost coming to an end and it was noticed that the junior varsity team had an extreme edge over the varsity team as they had been winning all the practice matches against them proving themselves better than varsity team members. Hence the key elements that were used for the setup of the varsity team were initially speed, coordination, and strength. However, the case was completely different when it came to the junior varsity team as they were the eight members which were the bottom rowers but still, they won all the time from the varsity team and proved that teamwork is more important than individualistic work.
